New Cal 20 owner in North Carolina

Hello all! I have be lurking here a while. I learned to sail 2 years ago and decided to get my own boat. My current situation necessitates that I be a "trailer sailor". I live less than a couple of hours from some big lakes in NC (lake Norman, Lake Wylie and others) and about 3 hours from the coast.

I bought a fairly well cared for Cal 20. It needs some work, but I am hopeful I can get it in the water by mid spring or early summer 2016.

Mine is better shape than what he started with.

Eventually I will posted some pictures.

1 question (of many) to start out with...

I need a motor. I will be using the outboard well. Is a short shaft adequate or is a long shaft better? I am not a racer. I have no plans to mount it on the transom.

Thanks in advance!

You only need long shaft if you are going to be sailing where waves are 2+ feet. Do not get anything over 5HP for this boat.

Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.
