Soon to be new the CAL family!

We have decided to sell our C-30 and move aboard a larger boat... anyhow long story short we are awaiting survey and finalization of a deal on a 1977 CAL 3-46, so i'll be reading up on the cal section!

I'm not sure if it's great minds think alike or small minds seldom differ. In October 2006, my wife and I sold our home and 99% of our worldly goods and in January 2007 bought a 1973 Cal 2-46 to live aboard. The "Lady Helen" is currently on the hard in Green Cove Springs, FL. She sailed through her survey and sea trial. The only important finding was the need to replace the fuel return hose--a $50 testimony to the good seamanship and care of the previous owner. We're currently having a teak and holly sole installed. She'll be trucked to Canada during the first week in May. Her home port will be on Georgian Bay in Penetanguishene, Ontario which boasts the finest sweet water cruising grounds in the world.

No doubt you looked at all the same Cals that we did in Florida. We took two years to research and visit boats from Eastern Canada to Florida and in all that time we kept coming back to the Cal 2/3-46. We put offers in on three boats and surveyed two (one was grossly misrepresented and failed the survey), before we finalized the "Lady Helen." She's the ketch version of the 2-46.

I look forward to your blog.

Well survey went well, nothing major. Expired extinguishers and a siezed winch were really the only notables and those aren't major.

I am going to have to put a new genset in, the current is a dc genset and that ain't gonna fly for what we need it for as we won't ever be at a dock.

I added a bunch of photos on the svroshambo.com website

Just curious as to why you are scrapping the dc generator?

I've got plenty of DC, 4 85 watt solar panels and KISS wind generator, the only thing we will use the genset for is to run the hotwater heater and the airconditioning... which the dc set won't do.

It will if you invert it, and, IIRC the dc generator is more efficient than ac
