4-108

Hi!
I have a Cal 39 with a perkins 4-108. I was out recently and the perkins started having a banging sound and loseing RPM's. so i throttled down to 1500 and it just died. went down below and looked at the engine and checked the oil, and cooling water and everything was fine. waited a bit and started it up. engine started but was knocking, banging and surging any ideas on whats wrong???

Ditto on the fuel and filters...check the simple stuff first! What sounds like banging may simply be the engine starving to death. Hope so!!
