Cal 2-27 re-engine experience?

Need to repower my 1976 2-27, anyone have recommendations per engine replacement options? Currently have fairly reliable but ancient Farymann A-30 Thanks!

I have a '76 2-27 as well and I'm using an A4 that was rebuilt in '92. Works like a charm and I'm sure you could find one that would drop right in. Where are you located?? Got pics of the boat?

...our model that works on your boat is the BZ482. It is supplied with 16" centers (mounts) to replace the Farymann which has 17" centers. Normally the small engines are only available with 14.5" centers.

Regards,... George.

George,

Tell me more about the diesel....is there one available with more power than the BZ482 that will fit? How does it compare to a stock A4? I think my A4 is 30hp.

Culinary411,... sorry for the delay. I was out on my boat without internet access.

....BETA MARINE manufactures/assembles diesels for propulsion all the way up to 90 HP and for diesel generators all the way up to 900 KVA.

The specific replacement engines for ATOMIC 4's are

BZ482 - 13.5 HP

BZ602 - 16 HP

BD722 - 20 HP

BD902 - 25 HP

BD1005 - 28 HP

I would need to know what boat you own to give you a specific engine recommendation.

As far as how they compare, ...there is no comparison between a BETA MARINE engine/trani package with a KUBOTA diesel an the A4. The KUBOTA is, by far, a better engineered :. better running, more reliable engine which is better suited for the marine application.

.... you can go to the web site an obtain the specs for all of the engines above, as well as for the A4. Also, I am always (except when on my boat) available to answer questions or to provide information.

Regards,...
