Re: Any Cal 22 Owners?

Cool. Must have wind on the beam.

Did you run your spin halyard to the masthead, or is it just above where the forestay connects. Mine has an external halyard just above the forestay, but I really want to rig a masthead halyard and fly an Asym. Haven't come up with a great idea to get the tack in front of the bow yet.

Looks like fun.

Re: Any Cal 22 Owners?

Just above the forestay. The wind was really light. I had to motor to a spot where I could see wind on the lake just so I could get some shape out of it... More than anything, I wanted to run through the rigging before we race this weekend.

Re: Any Cal 22 Owners?

I have checked out the photos on your facebook page. Spin looks fun. I think I'm going to have to go with a symmetrical.

How are you doing in the races? Did they give you 240phrf?

Ron

Re: Any Cal 22 Owners?

meyerm,

What type, and where did you get your mast ring. I'm having trouble figuring out what diameter mast ring fits the Cal 22 mast.

Thanks

Re: Any Cal 22 Owners?

Hi
Just found this forum. I have a Cal 22 since '88.
If anyone is interested, I noticed a listing on e$bay for a Cal 22 Listed in category: eBay Motors > Boats > Sailboats > Sailboats 20-27 feet

I have '85 cal 22. Need to fabricate main cabin backrests to which cushions are attached (I have cushions). Much appreciate photos or drawings showing how they are attached.

Re: Any Cal 22 Owners?

Chris,

I'll try to take a photo for you, but it will be a while until things thaw out and I can get aboard my Cal. From memory, it's going to be difficult to take a photo that represents the way they attach because it is a very confined space. Ill take a look when I can.

Feel free to remind me to take the photo if you see nice weather in Kentucky and I have not responded.

Re: Any Cal 22 Owners?

We have Cal22 #36. Great boat, not many around. I mostly race my Sunfish but the few times I have raced the Cal it rated at 235. Its fast for a 22 footer, we have no trouble hanging around with many boats in the 30' range. We are down in Houston TX.

Re: Any Cal 22 Owners?

JL,
So are you correcting to win easily at 235? JAM? Flying a spin racing? I'm looking for another boat to race, but I may end up racing my Cal 22 if I don't find something I like. Just like to get some feedback on how you did racing. Are you racing close with lower phrf boats heads up? Is there a webpage where I could look at your race results?

Thanks,

Ron

Re: Any Cal 22 Owners?

The boat goes better than I would have thought. I race my Sunfish most of the time but did a mixed doubles race with my wife last year, non spinnaker. We had just got the boat and were 5th in a large fleet. I have the spinnaker set up correctly now, the original set up from when I bought it was pretty suspect. As soon as get some decent crew I'd like to race the thing. For a boat with only 20 ft waterline its fast. One thing I have noticed, its seems to be really overpowered with the 150 Genoa. I've been using an older 125 and I'll think I will have a new one of those made instead, it's way more balanced.
