Congrats on the new vessel. We're 8 months in on our 29 and are loving it. I've pretty much read everything that I could find,especially Tommays' stuff. I agree, that the hull is very solid. We moved up from a Cal27 and the difference is notable. Not just the headroom, but the whole package. More boat, more better. At least for our conditions in Hawaii. Haven't been on your "bay"(sailing must be great)in 40 years. That Bay Bridge is awesome. Anyway, good luck and post some pics.

Around here the water is hard, and the boat's on the hard, under the snow! Waiting for the birds to come back and hopfully bring spring. I plan to recoat the deck and head for the pond! I want to make Isle Royale this year for a least a week........Dale

Hey All,

I just bought a Cal 29 in Everett WA. My first Sailboat and needs bottom paint and a rebuild on the Atomic 4. Hopefully I will have it in the water by May 1st.

Cal's are tough boats and id say we spend more time on the water that repairing our boats. =)
The guys that do my haul out refer to them as fast tanks.. lol

I have a cal 29 "1970" i have refitted this boat my self and sail her all over. +)

Oh, cold months... i have been sailing we had a VERY mild winter here. i just had to suck it up and pull her off the water for a bottom job.

That's a good looking boat and fairly similar to mine which is a few years older. In particular, my galley layout is apparently identical except for the stove that has been added to yours.

If you are going to rebuild your A4, I'd leave a bit more time than 6 weeks to make sure you learn about all of the "eccentricities" and upgrades. Along with the A4 forum here in Gear and Equipment, make sure you check out the recognized experts at Moyer Marine Moyer Marine Atomic 4 Engine Rebuilding and Parts

I' a Cal 2-30 owner in boston, ma. Im replacing my prop shaft as i had to cut it out when installing a new PSS shaft seal Boat isnt blocked high enough at the marina to drop the rudder down far eniugh to remove it so i had to cut it in 3 pieces then ill install everything including new cutless bearing when they put the boat in the traveling sling and i can remove the rudder. Saves me $300 to reblock the boat Did some minor epoxy repairs around the keel bottom, lught sanded and washed down the hull, bottom painting today with PETTIT Hyrdocoat. Replaced my bilge pump with a johnson 2200 and ultima switch, new blower hoses for the bilge vent, finishing some wiring for cabin lights, wiring new head pump and generally cleaning up all around. If i have time i may repaint topsides but im not losing sailing time to do that so maybe next season, we'll see
