ramjet49 is on a distinguished road
OK guys, I had a San Juan 24 with an outboard before my CAL 2-29. The 1lung diesel died this past year and I have been searching for an alternative. I didn't know that the new outboards were so cheap.

I really wanted to repower with a 14-15hp Beta but the $6700 cost on a boat that is worth 8-10 is a bit much. I really don't like to hang an outboard off the transom as it is a pain to lift and tilt for the wife and I. I really loved the Inboard.

But the pricing under $2,000 is almost irresistable. My ultimate question is, "Is the 9.8 HP enough? The 9HP was under powered in high wind and current situations. And what shaft should I go with?"

Thanks for the help guys.

tommays will become famous soon enough

I had to rescue the boat with a 4hp which moved it a 4.5 knots and they were originally offered with and outboard

BUT you would really want controls and electric start which pushes up the price by the time its all bought and installed and outboards don't put out much to charge the battery's

If a dirty bottom slows you down what do you think it does to your boat
