Rippy

Rippy, thank you for such a quick reply. I'll take some pictures. I'll also measure the forestay.

Sailing Puget sound, eh? Now that's the good life! I once did some motoring/sailing from Lake Washington to Port Townsend. Mighty fine! Just came from your post on the keel trunk. Small world. Where would we be without the web?

Oops, never saw othomas3's reply(page 1), and replied to sailnova coming on board this thread. Maybe we should develop a thread just for us nubie Cal21 owners so we keep informed w/o jumping all over the place?

New 21 Owner

Just wanted to add my name to the list. Bought my Cal21 end of last month. I have been sailing it nearly everyday on the lake. Winds are typically light but last Sunday we got a front that came through and whipped up to 15-20 knots. I tell you what, she heels right over in that kinda wind with the genny up.

Who knew 5.5 knots could be so fun!

I'm looking to get it out on the Puget Sound when I get more comfortable. It's my first "real" sailboat. I had a 8' Ranger sailing dinghy but I out grew it pretty quick.

Sailnova, I can't PM yet but let me know if you want to do some sailing, since we're local.

Welcome Jedneck! "she heels right over in that kinda wind with the genny up." Ha ha, that's an understatement Jed! Standing on the side of the cockpit seat is pretty standard with a healthy breeze. Gotta run just now, but wanted to respond quickly. More later, rippy

Spinnaker gear! You kidding me? I think the Jenny is all the foresail I will ever need with my Cal21. Hey guys as an aside, my boat got ripped off a mooring during Irene(east coast hurricane) at end of August. Evidently another boat and a tree caught Summer Wind(my Cal) and took her for a ride. Half a mile out the Rondout Creek and about 4 miles down the Hudson. Good samaritans(don't even know who at this point) grabbed her and she is in my back yard now. I am writing a children's book about her adventure.

Thanks for the update Rippy. You are going to have to pass that book along to the rest of us.

Spinnaker gear sounds too scary for right now.
In that little blow we had up here Makai was hauling the mail on a run. I have heard tale of guys "surfing" these boats on a run but IDK...

I think I have a "Gennaker" for her...it's a 160 Genoa made out of a light chute/spinnaker like material...I haven't played with it much. I think it is for going downwind in a very light breeze.

Rippy, that's crazy, I'm glad Summer Wind found her way home. It could have been much worse. Was she damaged at all?

Think I just put 2 and 2 together...
The guy I bought Makai from is Colin...probably mistacolin who started this thread.

Sailnova was saying that he lived on the sound as well. I guess that knocks one off the list.
