Aha!

I had been looking for more comments from mistacolin. Perhaps JedNeck has found the reason for MIA sailor. I don't know if you have found them yet, but their are other, and more informative Cal21 threads on the SailNet. Yes I will give a link to the child's book when and if published. I am not really a writer, but I thought it was a good story.
Regarding damage: Not much - some minor hull scraping and the vinyl in the rub rail was destroyed in one area. Researching to replace it. Somebody cut the main sheet to use as a dock line Only thing missing was a $32 boat hook. But all in all a very happy sailor.
One more thing regarding surfing. Looking at how little of the boat is in the water I have to believe planing the Cal21 would be a snap. Especially if you could get the keel up quickly.

I found these threads by searching "Cal21". Any other searches you use for this boat?
I don't think I will be putting up that much sail without the keel down for a while. Still a chicken.
Meh. <$500 damage for a good story ain't bad. Better than a boat LAS.

I've seen it, good looking out though, thanks.

Colin actually had that site as a link in the ad when I bought Makai.
I have read though it a few times. I'm thankful someone took the time to put that site together. Lots of good info.

OK, now, have you ever seen this? It's an older thread that requires deep searching to find. That's what motivated me to say at one point on one of the more current threads that we need our own owner's assoc or at least a sub category within the sailnet community. There are lots of Cals around, just not many of us! When you get to the thread scroll down til you find sailaway21. You will be overjoyed. At least I was. Never could raise the dude though.
Hi, we too got a new/used Cal 21
Best, rippy

Rippy, I don't know how you get a Cal21 owner's list going but its a great idea for those of us looking to work/make mods to our boats!

Yeah, probably big bucks, and not sure that's a common trait of us 21 owners! I am a member of the ComPac owners assoc. and they have an incredible owners forum. There are about 7 or 8 different ComPacs but each has it's own forum as well as some general forums. Check it out: Com-Pac Yacht Owners Association - Index

The 21 seems to be an odd little boat...sort of a black sheep in the Cal family. Just my style.

How many were even made?

I don't even know how many is alot...500? 5,000? 50,000?
They're not like cars...most people don't own boats...most boat owners don't have sailboats.

Thats because he doesn't post here anymore. Only place you will find him is on the Political Forums. (Long story, not important).

If you want to get in touch I might be able to help.

Great Sailing Boat and very fun.
She is well balanced and the rudder responce if unbelievable; talk about finger tip control.
I sailed a Cal 25-II growing up on the Great Lakes.
These 21's are a blast and a hlaf.

Hey sailor, thanks for the shout. Nah, if he's not interested in us anymore it's OK, I won't bother him. Bright guy though. Yes I have found the Cal a real challenge, and I sail a Hobie16. I still haven't gotten comfortable in just when she might spill enough wind and not put me in the drink. I may be luffing up too soon, but I don't want to lose her! Thanks again, rippy
