Hi Matt,

It came from me, found it on the net years ago but that site disappeared when the Cal 14 was sold.

Where do you sail? Mine is languishing down the south coast of NSW
until I can find a weed free ramp.

regards

OOPS!
You are 100% correct.....I must have been at least half-asleep when I typed Rob Perry! (Do I need to "eat my hat" now? If you are familiar with the history of the CAL 9.2 you will get the reference.)

This "CAL 14" does bear a very slight resemblance to the original "NEPTUNE 16" which, although not a CAL, was designed by Bill Lapworth. The Neptune 16 later became the NEWPORT 16 and later the GLOUCESTER 16.

Maybe this boat explains the alleged "CAL 21" made in Austrailia, again, absolutely no connection to the CAL 21 built in the US by JENSEN MARINE. The pic that I saw of an Aussie "CAL 21" looked like a big sister to this "CAL 14".

Re: Cal-14

Alex VK2KR: Sorry I missed your post. I sail my Cal 14 from Melbourne, including on the Bay, Corio and Geelong, Western Port, Paynesville, Lake Hume, and so on.

One of the best things about the Cal is that it's so easy to tow and launch, so you might want to look at places a few hours away. Also, you can take the Val 14 on small rivers and lakes as it's great for exploring little inlets and so forth (the places where the bigger boats can't go).

Re: Cal-14

Thanks Matt, We live in Townsville, not many rivers (that are usable) but a couple of lakes and a large amount of bay between us and Magnetic Island although can be a little choppy.

We have a Hartley TS16 that is undergoing refurbishment, (new bottom) and purchased the Cal so we could keep on the water during the re-fit.

Looks like a lot of 'FUN'.

Could need some sails very soon, the main is not the right one but will do and there is NO Jib.

Re: Cal-14

Hi all, just aquired a cal 14 (from Gympie Qld). I am in need of some rigging photos/drawings as this is far from standard. No headsail came with it so would love it if someone could give me the dimensions of a genuine Jib (wire luff type) and or a Genoa or Spin.

Thanks
Trevor

Re: Cal-14

Took our recently acquired CAL 14 for its first run in many years yesterday in Moreton bay. This is my step up boat from a catamaran and I have to say I'm impressed. I do have a penchant for the retro though. It was blowing about 10knotts and seas where half a metre but she bobbed though the mouth of the river and into the bay nicely.

Need to replace a couple rivets in the hatch and the rope to the keel (that should be fun) everything else was great. Can't wait for next weekend now :-)

Hi guys I know this is an old thread, however was hoping it might still get some attention of some other Cal 14 owners.
I have owned a Cal 14 for about 4 months now and have had some fun days out on the water.

However I am finding the boat to be quite tippy, as you move your weight around the boat or when the wind blows strongly the boat will heel considerably, to the point where you can fall out!

I am thinking this is not normal of the design and that there may have been a modification made, possibly to the swing keel?

I was hoping someone could provide some info as to the standard size and weight of the swing keel, so I can check it is correct. The swing keel on the boat feels quite lite when raising/lowering.

Any comments or advice would be much appreciated..
Thanks very much in advance.

Re: Cal-14

I stand corrected on the CAL 9.2 Designer, must have had a brain freeze! But at least I did remember the correct first name! <GRIN!>
