Cakiber 28 baby stay
Don't own one....yet, but just how important is the baby stay on the 28 ?
Re: Cakiber 28 baby stay
Fixed babystays on such rigs are usually there to prevent mast pumping - in lieu of double lower shrouds (fore and aft). Doubtful that boat has a 'spindly' rig, but you might like the stability the stay provides for the mast, esp in bumpy conditions.
The real pain is when jibing an end-for-end pole, and many users rig a quick-disconnect/tensioner to remove the stay downwind.
The other pain is how it impedes tacking a genoa as it 'drags' across and around the babystay. What REALLY helps here is a 3-4 foot piece of 2" PVC or ABS pipe around the bottom of the stay.. this helps the sail 'slide/roll' by the baby stay and it's much less likely to cause a hangup. I think the black plastic pipe is less visible and therefore better to use. You can also buy 'shroud rollers' but the pipe is cheaper and works better.
