Bahamas departures

We are near Ft Worth doing some repairs. We have a son coming in on Saturday. Is anyone crossing on Saturday or Sunday to the Bahamas? This is our first time and would love to see others departing at the same time.

Are you familiar with a difficult crossing in a wind with any north in it over 15 knots? This time of year some people wait many many weeks to depart Floriduh.

You might want to explore farther south in Florida until you get a good window. Leaving from farther south also give the stream on your quarter. BEST WISHES in getting across the Bahamas are wonderful, and the farther south the better.......i2f

20 MPH ain't fast unless, you do it in a 1000sq 3/2 house on 10foot waves

i2f could not be more correct, and many who were adhering to a "schedule" have made such a crossing, only to swear they would never do it again.

The Gulf Stream is like a conveyor heading north at 3-4Kts, and any sea building out of the North will then "stand up". It will not produce rollers, but a sharp wave which will produce a violent motion. Some call it a "barking sea".

Even though it would seem from Ft Worth that a Northerly would be a fair wind on the port quarter, if the boat is slamming down from every wave and you are going against such a strong current, being pooped occaisionally, it can be the longest short crossing ever.

If your boat is stout enough to handle the ride, your crew may not be, and they may want to catch the puddle jumper back.

Winds have been pretty Northwest/North for the past 3-4 days in the 8-15 knot range. While not TERRIBLE...its still a north wind.
