Oil canning hull of older Catalina Capri 22

I'm thinking of buying an older Capri 22. The YC manager showed me that when you press on the hull above the waterline, it compresses half an inch or so. He thinks it is delaminated.

Is this a true test of that?

Is it a problem it that is the case?

How thick should the fiberglass be above the waterline?

It doesn't happen on the bottom so I wonder if this is actually normal.

If not, has anyone had this happen and what if anything did you do about it?

Re: Oil canning hull of older Catalina Capri 22

Our first boat almost 20 years ago was a Catalina 30. Our surveyor pointed out the the bow oil-canned as well. He didn't seem stressed out about it. We used the boat for 4 years and never had any issues. The boat is still here at our marina.
If you are serious about the boat, have a surveyor check it out first.

Where are you located?
