Depth gauge on cat 25 acting up

My depth gauge has been acting up and I'm looking for ideas on what the problem is. It works properly for a couple min and then will go from 50(actual depth) to like 3.5 and then back. My first thought is the sensor is fouled somehow but I'm not really sure where to check to see if that's the case. Our battery is also pretty old so that was my second thought. Running lights and other instruments all work fine though. Thoughts?

I am having EXACTLY the same problem. It just started about a week ago. The boat in currently on the hard for a bottom job. I'm hoping it goes away when it goes back in the water.

Could be a pinched wire. Try a conductivity test with a Meter as when the wiring gets old it gets brittle. I had to replace the señor and wiring in my previous C&C boat with wiring break. Try a removable sleeve on the transducer as you can take them out in the water.

Fishing season picks up in the fall. Maybe your transducer is picking up fish?
Just kidding.

Hull growth also picks up by the fall. It is quite possible that your transducer is somewhat fouled by growth leading to erratic readings in depth.

Anyway, you still have a keel or center board right? You can always find the bottom with that if you try hard enough.
