C387 Extra Battery

Hi all,

I am a proud owener of a Catalina 387 and I would like to install a 3rd battery, decitated for starting. Looking at the wiring diagramms, Catalina has the option for a 3rd battery but I am not sure where this would be located.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Harry Pontikis

Harry,

Isn't one of your two batteries a dedicated starting battery already?

I know that on the 350, folks have been installing a third battery for starting under the port cabin bench seat, which is adjacent to the two house batteries. I opted for another water tank, which was placed in that space.

Hi Harry, I installed mine in the small locker in the floor just forward of the other batteries. I looked at just about all of the other options and decided that giving up that small locker was the best idea.
Regards,

Thanks guys for all your idesa; I think the area that Andrew is talking about will be the most convinient.

Yes one of the batteries is meant to be for starting but I would like to have the extra capacity as well as redundancy.

By the way, does anyone know the actual Ah capacity of these 4D Batteries.

Thank you,

Harry Pontikis

4D's typically come in at around 155AH's +/-10%...so with 2 house and one (separated) starter you have a working availability of 155 amps before you need to recharge your house bank. A "use" meter like a Link10 would be a big help in monitoring this and if you are installing a new battery, this is the easiest time to do it.
