Repair Lewmar 48's (or is it 38's?)

I have an '81 C-38 with Lewmar 48 three speed winches for my jib sheets. THe gear shift button is stuck in the down/high speed position making it impossible to crank under a load. Has anyone else had this problem and how easy was it to fix?

I have 46STs, I expect you'd have 48s, so I don't know your answer but if you haven't done so, try pulling the service manual for your winches from winches" target="_blank">http://en.lewmar.com/support/index.aspx?link=5# winches. The 46STs are very easy to service, hopefully the same for 48s.
