Just saw this and he may have alrady made his decision, but:

I owned a catalina 380 and actually bent the pulpit in a bad storm (90 mph straight lines). I never liked the thing anyway as I thought it was too close to the deck. Valiant made me another... but it was very pricey as I recall. It was in the thousands in best memory. Still, first time your anchor swings and smacks off a chunk of gell coat, you might wish you had replaced it.

PS Theirs never, NEVER, bent... as you would expect. Of course, the bow sat about a foot lower in the water...

Call Garhauer

Call Garhauer they are the ones that made the original bow rollers for the Catalina's and could most likely design one to fit your CQR.

The above posts are correct when they say the CQR does not compare to the newer designs. I too have a CQR and can drag it around the bay in reverse if I want to. A sailboat AUX engine should NOT be able to budge a primary anchor. I now use a Manson Supreme (same phisical weght as the CQR) which is similar in design to a Rocna and I can't budge it with the motor. My CQR collects dust now days... Oh and my Manson Supreme has significantly more holding surface area than my CQR does for the same physical weight and it fits fine on my Catalina bow roller..

longwaterline is on a distinguished road
Cool

I added an off the shelf anchor roller for a 35 pound CQR to my S2 11.0A, 15,000 pound displ and it works fine all over the Chesapeake Bay. Never dragged. It must be set correctly and have some chain. I have 50 foot of chain which keeps the shank from lifting upward which could unsettle the anchor. The CQR is fine for the Chesapeake and the 45 should be even better. Most anchors that drag are the result of being poorly set or not enough chain next to the shank. You need to dig it in with the engine in reverse to get a proper intial set.
