Engine Removel

I have a 1985 27' Catalina with a M-18 Universal engine. The engine has a oil leak that appears to be coming from the back part of the engine. Its been leaking fot the past several years, but not bad enough to do anything about. But this year it got much worse.I need to pull the engine and have it checked. I need to know if anyone has pulled this engine, out of this boat, and how they they did it. I would like to do it without taking the motor mounts off. If this is possible. After I get the motor in the cabin can I use the boom to lift it out of the boat and down to the ground?

Thanks
Pat Graves

I pulled a M15 out of a 1980 27 using a vang attached to my boom,& replaced my rear oil seal. I took of the engine compartment door, alternator & transmission, disconnected engine wires ,exhaust, throttle and tranny cables, water hoses. put wood around water intake inlet, took off mounting nuts (left engine mounts undisturbed) used a sissor (car)jack to raise engine off the mounts and tightened the vang to take it out of the compartment. i did this alone so i replaced the seal in the cabin. hope this helps Jim
