Radar Install Help?

I recently had a Raymarine Radar installed on the mast, just above the spreader on my C36. The problem is that the radar cable running down the mast is slapping very loudly with any movement of the boat.

The contractor who installed this unit tried "tightening" the cable, but it has only gotten worse. My hunch is that it should have been run thru conduit, and wasn't.

Anyone out there know the proper way to address this issue?

Thanks,

Mark Wood

You could try contacting the C-36 association at C36 International Association - Home or the tech editor for Mark I hulls at jewells@bellsouth.net or for Mark II hulls at tsenator@cisco.com.

i have been thinking about putting a tv antenna on my mast but have not done so because some folks tell me it will cause chafe on my jib. Is your radar antenna OK when the jib crosses? how far off the mast does it stick out?

Jack...put the TV antenna at the top of the mast. Better reception and no worries.

With the mast down stopping the noise is easy. Run a line with the nylon scrubber pads (that look like bunches of net) tied to the line at internavals. They will weight next to nothing, but will keep the lines in the mast from slapping around.

I can understand your concern about this issue. If you can get to the cable put heavy duty (big, long) Zip Ties about every foot along the cable. The tension of the zip ties against the mast will act as spring loaded holders, if you will, and will prevent the cable from slapping.

SanderO is an unknown quantity at this point
Why didn't you run the cable inside the mast?
How about using cable ties which have a screw hole for fastening. Install them along the run down the mast.

Thanks everyone for your input. The problem has been resolved. I hired another contracror to correct the issue. They were successful in rerouting the cable through the conduit, and now it is as it should be-nice and quiet!

All the best,
Mark
