Catalina 22 - build a galley??

Hello,
I'm the new owner of a Catalina 22 #880 as of last week. I'm working on cleaning the boat up and learning the ropes setting it up in my backyard.

My boat doesn't have the slide-out galley, but I would like to build something that I could use as a simple sliding galley.

I was wondering if anyone on this forum has built something like this? Doesn't seem that it would be too hard to do something out of wood a simple stove, and a sink from an RV shop or something. I'm just looking for some ideas so I can build one myself.

Anyone have some tips or photos they can share?

Thanks!
Tom

Tom:
You need to join the Catalina 22 National Sailing Association. The web site is www.catalina22.org. With your membership you will receive a 309 page Catalina 22 owner technical manual, on CD rom. In this CD, you will find pages and pages of info including building a galley. Also check out the Forums on the Catalina Direct Page, at www.catalinadirect.com.

Catalina 22 - Build a Galley

Tomg847:
I agree with the writer who recommended joining the National C22 Association. A wealth of ideas there, as well as help from fellow C22 owners. One thing to keep in mind about building a galley or any other modification to your C22...the concept of multiple uses for items on the boat. For example, using a bucket as a sink. It can also be used for washing down the deck, washing clothes, holding cordage, etc. Use a campstove that can be removed from the slide out and used in the cockpit. (Check out the smaller stoves at stores such as WalMart.) For hot water, use a camp shower system that collects heat from the sun. Pick the brains of other small-boat owners who have made modifications on their boats. You'll be glad you did.

Good luck!

SailorMitch will become famous soon enough
You're in good company. I think there were 15,000 or so C-22's made.
