Twisted...yes and to put even a finer point on it we are talking about the boats that were actually built by Catalina sometime after 1990, I think either 1993 or 4...not the original ones. Though the design of the original boats may be exactly the same...the execution may have been quite different.

Clarification?

camaraderie, could you elaborate a bit on your last post? I've only seen Morgan 44's for sail in the 1988-1990 range. Were they built after that as well? Were they identified differently? Thanks for any insight you can add.

Twisted...I may be wrong but I though Catalina took over the building in the early 90's and made some. Maybe I am confused...I know there was a bad review on a CC catalina morgan in that time period AND I was on the boat at the Annapolis show back then...but I may not be remembering the length correctly or the model #.....hmmm.
Cap'n Ron has hull #35...was that made by Catalina Ron?? What year??

No Practical Sailor review of the Morgan 44

I have been in touch with Practical Sailor, and they indicate that they have never reviewed the Morgan 44, so that was a dead-end. If they ever "trashed" a Catalina/Morgan model it was something different.

OK...mea culpa then...it either wasn't them or it was a different CC Catalina/Morgan. Will do some digging and see if I can come up with anything. Sorry for the wild goose chase.

EDIT: Can't find squat on line. I am giving up the chase but I do vividly remember a review on a Catalina Morgan that was horrible because it made me stop considering the boat. Looks like they only built the 38 and 44 in CC versions so it was one of those two. maybe it was spin sheet or BWS or a different mag. Anyway...if you like the boat as I did...just be sure to check underneath the nice accomodations for structural issues and leaking hatches and core issues as those are what I recall were mentioned among other things.

The CM440's a great boat!

I don't know what article seems to have trashed the Catalina Morgan 440 but it won Boat of the Year in 2005 for cruisers.
We sail and live aboard ours!

Its a different boat.

When Catalina brought this boat to market they named it the Catalina Morgan 440. It was never just a 44. I asked Frank and I think the answer I got back was that it was basically marketing. Maybe to compete against the Island Packet 440? I don't know. Technically by the specs, it should have been called a 450. Whatever.

Fly...It must have been the 38cc I read about and stepped aboard...just seemed bigger at the time!!
FWIW...the BOTY awards are about as bogus as Gore's Academy Award!! We've discussed them here extensively in the past and they are clearly rewards for advertisers that rotate on an annual basis in the production boat arena.
