Catalina 27 Rudder issues

In my purchase survey some pitting was noted at the rudder post, between top of rudder and hull. Can this be repaired? If the post is hollow, can reinforcment be added to the tube, such as a rod surrounded by resin filler, or..?
I don't want to replace the rudder if it's not necessary.
Tks for any suggestions

pitted post

Given to alliterations, it might be helpful if you could please post a picture of the pitting on the post. Also, suggest the general forum as it seems difficutl to get feedback/input on C 27s.
