Looking for C-27 GPS Recommendations

I have a Garmin GPS 76 that mounts on a hinged arm that swings out from the cabin into the doorway when underway. The problem is, the screen is too small to see from the tiller. I'd like to get a larger unit, chartplotter type, but since the boat has a tiller, there is no binnacle to mount it to. I'm apprehensive about putting holes in the bulkhead for one, since they change every few years. Mounting just the bracket, and unplugging, replugging every trip seems like a pain, and I'm sure the connector would not last (boat gets lots of club use). Plus I'm afraid a club member will forget to bring it in, and it will get stolen.

Any clever solutions?

I mounted a Garmin 540s in the same manner, hard wired and was very happy with it. Sounder, chartplotter etc. Have since moved up to a C-30.

Hi Michael, I have a C-27 as well and I use a Garmin 60cs. It's one of the smaller handheld series. I use the bicycle handlebar mount on the aft pulpit. I usually steer from the stbd side and it's mounted right across on the port side. I'm in San Diego and have been down to Mexico and out to the Islands off SOCAL in good and not so good weather including night and fog and it works for me really well.

Magellan Pioneer - ancient by gps rights still works hand held, but it can sit in the cup holder.
