Looking at C-27's in VA/MD

Hello folks,

I'm looking at buying a C-27 and have found several from $15,000 to $16,900, and 1985 to 1988. In this market, what would a normal offer be? I was thinking of asking around $2,000 below asking price. Does this sound about right?

Also, I'm planning on having a survey done on the boat that I choose. What's a normal price for a sailboat survey. I'm going to call around and compare prices.

Thanks!

Did you ever find a boat? I'm a bit to the south (richmond area) and I've seen C-27s for much cheaper. I'm sure some of the cheapies were junk but plenty in the 4-8 range, and the ones I've seen don't last very long.

I'm not looking to buy at this minute, but I've read quite a bit about these boats as they seem fairly ubiquitous in what I would want to spend on a first (non-power) boat.

Hey Pilotman,

I did find a C27 in the Annapolis area for 13k and love the boat. It's more than enough to learn what not to do - safely. Lol Yeah, there are no frills, but she's very forgiving and can handle a stiff breeze fairly well. I wanted a boat that I can do overnights in with two adults. This boat has really exceeded my expectations. I feel it's a great first boat. There aren't very many complicated systems, but just enough to educate through practice ;')

Good luck with the search...
