EGL,
I was there at the same time with my family. I'll bet that we crossd paths in some of the anchorages. I was on a Voyage 50' Cat. We had an absolute blast! I will add my notes and a link to my pictures in a separate post.

Cheers, Bill

Bill -

Very cool. I'll look forward to your post. We are looking to go back around the same time next summer. Before that will be a charter to Catalina Island (maybe in December).

Re: BVI Sailing Vacation (June, 2011)

Have been to the BVI five times but never been to Anegada. Planning another trip Jan. 2013 ( 3 boats booked) my boat will be a 42i which has a keel of 7ft. Should I expect any problems finding safe mooring at Anegada ?
Sounds like chartering in summer is not the best choice. We have always travelled in Dec. or Jan.

Afkell

Regarding Anegada, you can carry 7' in there. The best local knowledge comes from Walker Magnum. Check out his forum at bvipirate.com

Re: BVI Sailing Vacation (June, 2011)

I would second that, Walker knows the place well, and the depth does change. I would think 7' would be the max-max. I saw a few boats anchor out a bit, a tad east of the last green marker. You would need to anchor, no mooring balls out there. We came in with 6' draft, not a lot of room between the keel and the bottom.

Re: BVI Sailing Vacation (June, 2011)

Looks like BVIpirate.com is no longer available.
Some years ago while on vacation in Croatia we used anchor on one occasion because there were no swing mooring or Marina available ( this has unusual in the area)
About 1.00am we were hit with a wind we had heard about but never seen before " The Boro"
Heavy rain, thunder & lightning ,wind and noise. Ours and about twenty other boats drifted backwards at a terrible rate; the few boats still anchored had their crew over the side fending off others with their feet. We got our engine started and under way about 10ft from a wall and then took in the anchor only visible by flashes of lighting. We had on board 5 guys I would consider experienced racing crew well used to sailing in heavy weather; I would hate to have had only family on board.
Needless to say I am getting a bit iffy about Anegada ,but having said that we have a 50 ftr booked again in Croatia in October.

Dobra Don, Ahhhh, Croatia, I did a 10 day charter up to the Kornati Reserve in 2007. Great trip, envious as heck. Eat a couple of kilos of black mussels for me!
