Flotilla sailing with Sunsail

Flotilla chartering for your very first time as a skipper or in unknown waters is a plausible option and SUNSAIL is a major player and pace setter in the field. Needless to add that I have a first-hand experience when I switched from day sailing into week-long cruising a decade ago and I don't regret I have done so. It has to do with confidence building, not years of sea experience.

We just returned from our 1st Flotilla vacation. It was awesome.... My wife and son enjoyed it as much as I did. We had perfect weather for the entire week expect for a squall that just added excitment to our trip... Can't wait to go back!

We just returned from a Sunsail BVI flotilla. Would highly recommend it for first-time charterers. There are cheaper ways to charter but the flotilla really lowered the anxiety level for all concerned and the local knowledge was very helpful. Pleased to report that, as I hoped, the wife had a great time and is already talking about "next time." Here are a couple of my favorite pics.

Great comments, great news. We will also be doing a SunSail Flotilla in April 2013. Have been sailing a 26ft C&C for 1 year now with approx 400 nm under our belt. Because we took the Basic keelboat with another provider, we will be challenging the ASA 101, then taken the ASA 103, and ASA 104 prior to our Flotilla. In total will be around the Island for approx 26 days. Can't wait

Another option that is available is a Capt for hire. Typically if one knows how to sail but has some anxiety about navigating, anchoring, mooring etc. one can get a skipper for a couple of days to build confidence before heading out on their own. As stated, BVI navigation is line of sight with very few hazards. If after a day or two there is still some desire for further assistance you can generally keep the Capt longer. I'm pretty sure all of the various charter companies can set you up if that option is of interest.
