What engine is in your cheoy lee?
I've got a clipper 42' and I'm not sure what was originally in these boats. I've currently got an older Isuzu C-240 (actually a "QD" - some outdated nomenclature for the same engine) which seems to have been hand retro-fitted to bolt up to a 2:1 Velvet Drive.
But my maintenance log clearly says this was not the first engine in the boat. The maintenance log was started by the third owner, and I have no idea what was originally in it. I'm kind of curious :-) Supposedly the motor was totally blown and was yanked out in 1981. I sort of wonder how someone blows a diesel engine in 10 years, but I guess it's not that surprising. Of course the engine that replaced it is easily as old as the boat and still running strong. But what came in your Cheoy Lee? |
My CL Luders 36 has a Westerbeke four 107. With 107 cubic inches it can produce up to 40 HP @ 3,000 RPM and would burn 1.3 gph. A more useful setting is 2,000 - 2,250 rpm making a bit under 20 HP and using about .7 gph.
I think the transmission ratio is 1:91 to 1 but am not certain. The propulsion system ends on a three blade prop, the pitch of which is presently unknown. Bob Rockport, MA |
