steering issues luders 36'

hi all a freind of mine has just bought a luders 36 and we were sailing it today prior to doing a refit.
Main issue is that the boat was very difficult to turn when tacking we were sailing at 2 to 5knts and found here very reluctant to go about at obveously the she might need some tunning but question is are they normally so unreponsive at the helm expecailly to port?
We will check the rudder when the boat is hauled out and see that it is to original specification and will be fitting a new helm system as well.

A boat I had with very stiff wheel steering, I just lubricated the cables and that made a word of difference.
