When we back away from our concerns with the individual cuts in expenditures that affect us individually, and look at the bigger picture, I heard a financial wizard in the past couple days (I think it was on Charlie Rose, but won't swear to it.) express his opinion that the sequester has had the salutary effect of putting the US on a sounder economic footing.

Yep.

Another "phony scandal??"

And it isn't coming from the accused, it's coming from the accuser.

In legal terms it's described as the "he who smelt it, delt it" principle!!

UPDATED;

Due to the Federal Government shutdown, NOAA.gov and most associated websites are unavailable. However, because the information this site provides is necessary to protect life and property, it will be updated and maintained during the Federal Government shutdown.

From, it couldn't be maintained or updated unless the President's FY2014 budget is passed, to just any old FY2014 budget, to we will protect life and limb even during a shutdown!!

Re: NOAA Apparently a Political Advocate President Obama (Thomas Point Broken)

arent unnecessary departments of our overgrown govt awesomely necessary to the ones using them.
we the people are being flatly ABUSED by both entire legislature and entire executive branch of the monster it has become.
the only folks being punished for not doing congress job is the constituency which allegedly elected these morons into their phat corrupt and greedy offices.
what needs to occur is the purging our govt of these inept phat cretins who are not able to put together a budget( the real reason behind the shut down, not the distraction, thankyou) and refuse to take responsibility for their inept inactions. they do not suffer in a govt shutdown, yet they are the ones shutdown was originally intended to punish. inept congress for not making budget.
so, as human beings seem to cherish ABUSE so much as to seek it, do you guys here think anyone will make an attempt to effect change in this corrupt system or do you guys think we will be force fed s*** from these lepers yet more times. lobbies only propogate corruption these days and that corruption ins not able to be afforded any longer. this needs to be discontinued.
we have a monster of an overgrown government that is unable to financially sustain itself, and each individual member of the group that made it that way (exec and legislative branches of our govt) still wants more--tenure?? bs!! bennies??--bs!!
they cannot manage the budget, much less make one-- why bother paying them anything. ye donot abuse the constituency that got ye to where ye are--lol...moroons!!

Station TPLM2 is transmitting intermittently.

So, the budget was passed, the maintenance is no longer postponed but the station is still transmitting intermittently??

Re: NOAA Apparently a Political Advocate President Obama (Thomas Point Broken)

This is what happens when indiscriminate cuts are made across the board. Mandatory spending gets fully funded and things that can be scrimped on are. As I remember NOAA had to cut the buoy fund to make up for the sequester cuts to its sattelite launch. And they decided a weather sattelite was more important than local weather data.

You should more closely review how this thread has developed.

Everyone has to economize/prioritize.

The issue is how political statements were linked to maintenance and service by a supposed non-political entity like NOAA.
