Chesapeake photo op?

Several of you Annapolis area sailors participated when Gary photographed boats from one of the local bridges.

Is there any interest in a redeaux? Got new sails or a new paintjob you'd like to show off? Missed out on the first photo session?

Refresh my memory: What bridge were the original photos shot from?

Naval Academy Bridge on the Severn. If I recall correctly we coordinated with Annapolis City Police, Anne Arundel County Police, and MD State Troopers to make sure the photographers on the bridge wouldn't run into issues. The coordination was easy. Just a couple of phone calls.

Ah, ok. Yes, I do recall coordination with the police. I would take care of that.

I'm considering asking my daughter to take these photos. She has a decent 35mm DSLR, but she'll need to rent a telephoto lens. Fair warning- Gary had professional grade equipment as I recall. My daughter is taking photography and graphic arts in college, but this is still amatuer hour.

Re: Chesapeake photo op?

This was such a generous offer when Joe did it for us, that we've been doing this for our marina every summer since. Maybe we could combine efforts? We'd be glad to host the before or after party here, and be backup photographers when the event happens, giving some additional angles along with the primary photog. (We just have a simple DSLR)

Re: Chesapeake photo op?

WnW,

Any help would be great. Where have you been taking your photos? Same bridge?

I'm itching for some spinnaker shots, but not sure if the typical winds would allow it.

Re: Chesapeake photo op?

yes, same bridge. We get spinnaker shots: we have people come through EARLY - between 9 and 10 AM. Before the power boat wakes mess up their sail trim - who wants a photo with flapping sails? The winds that early in summertime are light, and we've gotten some spinnaker shots that the recipients are happy with. Let us know when you have a date.

For better photos, remind the boaters to take down their biminis so they can be seen in the cockpit, and clear the decks of jerry cans, kayaks, and other clutter.

It makes for a fun day; we usually have a potluck back at the marina in the afternoon/evening to exchange photos.
