Knapps Narrows

Anyone been through this year with over 5 ft draft? We draw 5' 5" and I'm concerned about the western approach.

Re: Knapps Narrows

It would be tight, especially around the R4 on the western side. They have installed a new green buoy to help - you need to stay real close to the R4 and turn sharply afterwards. It can be done with your draft, try not to do it at low tide. Plan for a rising tide to transit and you should be fine. A member of our club did so and did fine with his 5-1/2' draft.

Re: Knapps Narrows

Then that'll be my plan, Gladrags. Thanks! I learned to hug that mark even with my former 4'10" boat. Good to know that someone with my draft has done it, even if not at low tide.

Re: Knapps Narrows

Just a followup on taking our 5' 5" draft boat through Knapps. We went through successfully in both directions last weekend. Eastbound we were just one hour after low tide on Saturday and it was close--we might have had only 6 inches under our keel briefly as we rounded Red #4. Returning westbound on Sunday 2 1/2 hours before low tide we had more breathing room. I think we'll try to make 2 hours removed from low tide as our limit.

Re: Knapps Narrows

Thanks for the up date. However Kent Narrows is just about closed off with reports of 3 and 1/2 feet at low tide around buoy 4 on the north channel...
