Fake Distress Calls near Annapolis

I think I have now heard 2 or 3 USCG "be on the lookout" calls for boats in distress near Annapolis in the past 2 weeks. Every one ended up with no boats in distress found. Anyone else hear these?
Also IMHO the USCG radio has the deviation turned too low. Their voices are very quiet even at close range.

I've head the BOLO's - doesn't mean it's a fake call.

True - but when they get a helo out looking right away where the call came from and can't find any boats in distress it looks pretty fake to me.

Re: Fake Distress Calls near Annapolis

I haven't been on the Bay the last couple of weeks, but every weekend I hear several distress calls, reports of boats aground in Kent Narrows, jetskiis missing and the like. No indication that any are fake. It is rare to hear of a boat or chopper being deployed to assist.

What I heard was the helo pilot looking at every boat in the area the call came from very soon after the call and finding no boats in distress. One other clue is no boat name, description, or nature of distress was noted.
