Re: 2014 Sailing Season

Just thought I'd share what we saw this past Sunday evening at the mouth of the St. Mary's River.

We will spend the fourth anchored in the bend at St. Mary's College enjoying the concert and fireworks.

Saturday 6/28: Singlehand from Essington through the canal to Bohemia River
Sunday 6/29: Singlehand from Bohemia to Rock Hall. Wife drives down and meets me there late Sunday evening.
Monday-Wed 6/30-7/2: Cruise around wherever the wind's blowing. If good southerly wind, we may cross the Bay to Magothy or tack down to Annapolis. If wind is dead Monday and we have to motor, we'll go south through Kent Narrows to Miles River to be well positioned for southerly wind picking up on Tues and/or Wed. So we might be in Annapolis July 1 or 2.
Thur 7/3: Return to Rock Hall early, drop off wife at her car. If possible, continue to Worton Creek where wife will meet me and drive us home for July 4 morning parades.
Fri 7/4: After morning parades, return to Worton Creek and singlehand to Bohemia weather permitting.
Sat 7/5: Singlehand from Bohemia or Worton back to Essington.

Re: 2014 Sailing Season

Sailing solo to Cape May, tomorrow, Saturday, June 28th, arriving Monday afternoon, June 30th, for the July 4th week. My wife and son are driving up in the support van. Will be staying at Utsches all week.

My brother will be joining us on July 4th and will help me sail the boat back on July 5th. Look for the white Pearson 28 "Thoe" heading up the Delaware Bay or south along the Delmarva coast on July 5th...

When I first read this I assumed you'd be taking the outside route! lol

Maybe we'll pass each other somewhere on the Elk River, but looks like you might be going through there at night. Are you stopping over somewhere, or trying to make Reedy Is. in one continuous trip?

(Upon re-reading, maybe you are taking the outside route.)

Re: 2014 Sailing Season

I plan to sail outside up there and inside back home - so I will probably be doing another counterclockwise Delmarva circumnavigation, unless the winds are really favorable for a fast outside passage on July 5th - 6th. With my brother aboard for the return trip, I can run nonstop down the Bay, depending on conditions. Last time, I anchored at Still Pond and Solomons for a three day run down the Bay.

My main goal is to sail as much as possible (and to have fun, be safe and be comfortable).

Re: 2014 Sailing Season

Moving my boat, The Office, from Hampton to Annapolis this weekend. If the forecast holds, look for the big asym headed up the Bay.

Based on my Annapolis 4th of July experience last year, unless you get a mooring, I highly suggest not going if you have to anchor. Too many dragging anchors and bumper boats in the night for my comfort. Amateur hour.
