Re: Kent Narrows Dredging-Summer 2014

Stopped in at the Chesapeake Exploration Center at Kent Narrows yesterday, May 4th... They related that the North Channel dredging and Land Reclaimation project is complete. Now have to find out out what the reported depths are. All the original markers appeared to be in place with no temp buoys observed .

Re: Kent Narrows Dredging-Summer 2014

Just checked, this date May 8th, that the average mean low water depth is 7 feet in the recently dredged North Channel according to Tow Boat US @ Kent Narrows.

too bad that MD won't do anything for Smith Island, MD.
Of course SI isn't as affluent as lofty Kent Island.

Thats great. We use it some as we like the Wye and Miles, but the slog around Bloody Point is an extra 6 hours for us.

This opens up more trips there...now if they would only removed the drawbridge,,,

Don't think the drawbridge will ever be removed..but the bridge openings could be easily be modified to be more accommodating to boat traffic..especially during weekends and holidays during the boating season. Currently the openings are on the hour and every half hour from May 1st to Oct. 31..after that the bridge is opened on demand. The exception to that seasonal sked is to commercial and emergency requests.

Personally I'd like to see a reversed seasonal bridge sked openings during weekends and holidays..in other words the bridge remains open and closes on the hour and every half hour. This can be easily done with electronic signage as there is exits/entrances on both sides of the taller Rt 50 bridge to advise car traffic...

We bumped a bit today in channel with a 5'9" keel and .85 feet over low tide. No problem, just a little disconcerting.

Also had strong W-NW winds for 15 hours and blowout tides.
