Wed night races in Annapolis
I read about the wed. night races in Annapolis in last weeks Washington Post. The article mentioned that some boats will take on crew that don't have a ton of experience, does anyone know how that works? Do you just go to the marina and let the marina know your interested in crewing? I took a ASA basic sailing class a few years back, but haven't sailed in 4 years and don't have a lot of time on the water but I want to get back into it now that I'm back near water (was living in Denver). The Wed. night races sounded like a fun way to get back on the water, if anyone knows how signing up to crew works I'd appreciate hearing about it! Thanks in advance, Tim

The Annapolis Yacht Club on Spa Creek near the bridge that connects Annapolis and Eastport sponsors the races. You may want to check out the web site or contact the club. I am sure that skippers are always looking for "rail meat," which doesn't require much experience. Spinsheet magazine is also a source of info about racing in and around Annapolis.

The weekend races also frequently need crew, although not necessarily for that race. You might go down to the Severn Sailing Association, and just walk around and meet the J/24 owners as they're preparing for each race...

They'd prefer someone that could become regular crew, or at least a regular standby, but they're always looking.

Check Spin Sheet Magazine, they also have a web site? We will have to wait till spring for crew listings.
