Slip/Mooring/Anchorage for Annapolis Boat Show

Hi,

I am planning on sailing down to the Chesapeake for some wandering about. I'll be going to the boat show as well. So I'm asking for suggestions as to slips or moorings or anchorages in the Annapolis area that might be doable at boat show time.

Ideally it would be in an area where a rental car might be either delivered or a reasonable taxi ride away.

Thanks much

Back Creek is a favorite anchorage during the boat show. You could anchor near Bert Jabin's, which does get water taxi service that would take you over to the show. Actually, I think you could call the water taxi from anywhere in Back Creek. There is also a large anchorage area near the Naval Academy athletic practice fields, but this is so close to the boat show itself that you may not find any room. The water taxis also work this area.

As far as slips go, there are several marinas in Back Creek--Mears, Annapolis Landing, Port Annapolis, and Bert Jabin's. You might want to contact them now to reserve a slip. Horn Point Marina is directly across from the boat show. There are marinas in Spa Creek north of the drawbridge that connects Annapolis and Eastport. I am not that familiar with them.

Here are some web sites with marina information:

Anchorages for Boat Show

Spa Creek (1st creek south w/bridge) - has a couple mooring fields .. right past the Eastport bridge as well as further back. If you continue back, there are several areas to anchor including outside Truxton park. Water taxi service is avail, but also recommend a dink. Any place a public road ends at the water is an open place to land/tie a dink. If you look at this link, you'll see all the roads ending on the shore of Spa Creek (like Conduit St or Burnside St)

Back Creek (next creek south) - several places to anchor .. closer to Eastport destinations, further from Annapolis destinations

In front of the Naval Acedemy is an anchorage .. but it's not protected and can have quite a bit of traffic and choppy.

Have fun.

Angelo

We are staying at Annapolis city Marina. They are right downtown. They have a store, etc. And they are serviced by the water taxi. everything else is close enough for walking distance. We made our reservation a month ago. I don't know if they have anything available now.

I sail out of Back Creek in Annapolis. I was out yesterday (October 3) for a few hours and sailed over by the Naval Academy after coming off the Bay. The anchorage adjacent to the NA athletic practice fields was filling up fast. Back Creek is crowded as well, and has been filling up for the past two weeks.
