Re: Kent Narrows Bridge

With the new budget cuts I don't think we small craft operators should expect the same services we have become used to from the USCG.
"If the drawbridge must be closed, the highway administration will notify the U.S. Coast Guard which will notify boaters".

Transiting the Narrows from either direction and finding that the bridge is unable to open for sailboats would not be fun...

If they are done by the end of March, the impact on boaters will be minimal.

The better thing would be the removal of that bridge which is a hazard to navigation at best. The line of sight from one side of the waterway to the other is extremely poor, forcing boats to make a turn to pass through in a zig zag pattern? You can't readily see opposing traffic. The business owners in the narrows even say that the detour around that bridge is of no hassle and doesn't trouble their customers as reported in the article so they wouldn't miss the dang thing! I never saw the purpose to keeping the bridge after the new one was built. Sorry to troll the group but I feel strongly about this, can you tell?

Re: Kent Narrows Bridge

Folks this the Chesapeake Bay forum and what happens on the Chesapeake...stays on the Chesapeake.. With that I being an avid bicyclist hate to see the bridge go as the bridge connects the cross Island Bike trail with some marinas and the restaurants. But on the other hand waiting a half hour for the bridge to open is a PITA with heavy boat traffic and current to manuver... My vote is to reverse the current bridge schedule...have it open then close on the hour for ten minutes.

Re: Kent Narrows Bridge

I almost never transit Kent or Knapp's Narrows.

If I do, it means I'm motoring and I hate motoring. Once in a great while, I'll use Knapp's Narrows to shorten the trip home if I'm pressed for time and the wind forecast is for crap. I've used Kent Narrows exactly once and have little use for it. My sailing pattern just hasn't required it.
