meeting a boat in Annapolis

Where is the best place in annapolis to meet a boat for a quick step aboard?

I'm returning a rental car while my boat is sailed acrss the bay from Rock Hall.
the boat draws five feet.

What about the Naval academy? I have a DOD civilian ID card.

Thanks

Ego Alley would be easy enough. Lots of bulkhead space up near the end of it where you could hop aboard. Have done it there myself in fact.

I wouldn't use the Naval Academy. The only place where you could effect a discharge/pick-up would be the boat basin, and that's restricted (unless maybe you know someone in charge there).

I would have them pick you up in Ego Alley, or maybe alongside at Fawcett's. If your crew is not experienced manoeuvering the boat in tight quarters, they can grab a mooring ball and you can take the water taxi out to them. If they have a dinghy in tow they can grab the mooring then pick you up at the dinghy dock next to the DNR dock or at the end of Ego Alley.

If the timing is right and you'd only need a few minutes, the boat could tie up on the east end of the city dock, near where that tour boat that has the paddle wheel (Annapolitan?) docks. It's just across from the mooring ball area and just before you come to the entrance of Ego Alley.

Jay -- That is a definite possibility but some of the big tour boats tie up there and get real testy if some boater hogs their spot when they are trying to come in. I also have been yelled at there while being picked up.

I agree with the others to avoid the academy. Security is much tighter there than in the past and I don't think they'll cooperate with you much. Somewhere along Ego Alley is probably the easiest, especially this time of year.

If you only need a few minutes - try the fuel dock at Annapolis Landing Marina in Back Creek. They go to Winter hours soon and are not very busy during the week. If you buy fuel you could probably sit there for a while.
