Would love to learn how to sail ?

I may look into chartering or a school. But, any old salts just want a helping hand in trade for some sailing education? Im out of Richmond, 29 year old male. I have been on the water awhile, I piloted my first boat when I was 11. But, never really been sailing, besides a small hobie cat...

Just trying to save a buck and maybe build a friendship.

If you want the ocean or the bay, I can't help you ... but if you'd be interested in a leisurely cruise around Swift Creek Reservoir some evening on my Flying Scot, I'd be happy to have you out. If there's any way you can take Poltergeist up on his offer, it would be well worth your effort. His Flying Scot is a large daysailer and one of the best platforms I know of for getting an introduction to sailing as an adult. You can learn a lot of the basics on a boat like that. If you can see fit to a longer drive I'm always open to taking folks out for a day sail or two on the upper Chesapeake. I can accomodate 2-3 guests most any weekend.

Of course you'd have to come over to the dark side of catamaran sailing, and the boat is not within the 20k budget you spoke of in your 50 mile and back thread...on the other hand, I've got air conditioning with queen sized beds and can make that 50 miles in 5 hours on a good day.

Check out Fishing Bay Yacht Club (fbyc.net). The club is mostly folks from Richmond and they have class room and on water training at the start of the season for folks that want to crew.

Don't let the fact that the season is well underway stop you from making an inquiry. It's likely you can be on a boat at the next race.

Actually I occasionally need crew - I am in Solomons, MD (which, granted, is not much closer than Annapolis).Whenever my wife does not want to come out sailing, I'd be glad to have someone go with me - I can't come back to the dock single handed (I can leave just fine, but gotta go back sometime).
