Pirate Festival

Is anyone else going to the Rock Hall Pirate Festival on the 9th and 10th of August? If they get a good turnout it sounds like it could be a lot of fun and maybe even start an annual event.

It starts about 10:00am Saturday with a decorated dingy flotilla in the Harbor near Harbor Shack followed by a rowing/paddle race to the public beach for a Pirate beach party with live music and grog. There are other activities in town and lots for the kids I understand. On Sunday there will be a Pirates Ball with Gray Beard look alike contest and costume contest at Watermens. If you surf Rock Hall Pirates Festival on the net it has more information. The Pirate ship from the Inner Harbor will also be in town. It's somthing different and sounds like fun! We like to dress up and get crazy so we decided to give it a go! Swan Creek Sailing Association has a weathermans cruise that same weekend but we had to make a choice so we party!

Dear JonGoose:

I have used Sailnet as a contact with Chesapeake Bay sailors and Cabo Rico owners but the forum has changed.....have you ever visited their Cabo site and would you know where it went?

We sail a CR 34 out of Piney Narrows Yacht Haven and are always eager to share/receive CR knowledge whenever it is available. There was an active group on the old forum but it seems to be MIA.

We read your notice of the Rock Hall Pirate Party this weekend and the weather looks good. We may anchor out in Swan Creek. If you see us do stop by and say HI!

They just started a Cabo Rico thread with the rest of the boat threads under the forums tab. I have not put anything in it yet but I will and maybe that will get the ball rolling. Our CR38 is tied up in B16 at the Swan Creek Marina, there is no name on it yet but it will become Jon Goose as soon as the name and port placks are done. We live in Rock Hall so I will keep my eye out for you.

Hal, thanks for the reply. Yes, I would love to post on it but where do I find that on this page? I used to look up in a drop down menu under email lists but that page is no longer available.

For years we kept a boat in Rock Hall.....actually, Lankford Bay Marina. It is a delightful little town. We really, really enjoy the Piney Narrows folks, though. Very customer oriented, can't do enough for you. The dredging of the North Channel was a huge improvement so we can come and go without regard to tides. We like the easy on and off Rt 50 and the easy departure either North or South from our facility.

What was the name of your vessel prior to "Jon Goose"? Did you find her here on the Eastern Shore? There was a 38 in our marina that was sold last year called "Brass Ring" (in lovely shape) and I think there was another on Yachtworld out of Rock Hall that was sold last year. I would think you would be really happy with your vessel. "Tango" delights us in most ways. We will keep our eye peeled for you as well.

When we bought her she was on the hard at the Swan Creek Marina Yard. Her name at that time was "Island Time". Before that I believe she was owned by a Mr. Smith who lived outside Chestertown. I was told that she had been on the hard for quite a few years and that is not good for a boat. There was another CR38 at Swan Creek before us but it was sold before we got there.

Going to be in Annapolis all weekend may sail over and check out festival if there is some wind this weekend. Is there a website for the Pirate Festival with detailed info?

Google the Rock Hall Pirates Festival for details. If you sail up look for us in the Flotilla we will be in a decorated skiff with large pirate flag flying.
