Do you know what the height of the bridge on VA-3 is. The images from google maps don't look very high.

I have no idea. I've only crewed out of Deltaville a few times the last time I lived in VA and I don't remember a bridge. if you go on the noaa site they have all of the charts available for free and that will show the bridge heights.

Cam, had a great sail up the bay. Got about half way between Tangier and Reedville before I gave up and fired up the engine and headed west. Winds are predicted westerly and more favorable for sailing north from Reedville to Solomons tomorrow.

My major complaint, as others have stated is that Deltaville is too fickin far from Richmond. I don't know why there is no marina in West Point (about half the distance). It's a pretty little town surrounded by water. Yah, there is the stinky paper plant, but so what? It reminds me a lot of Fernandina Beach, Fl. And I kinda like the smell, and wouldn't mind having my drive cut in half.

The problem with Urbanna is it is 10-11 miles up the River from the bay. I had a slip there for one year then moved to Deltaville. It is easier to do the 1/2 hour in the car than the 3 hours by boat to the Bay. Urbanna is a great place to sail TO...not a great place to sail FROM unless you have a small boat and just want to sail on the river.

The route 3 bridge is 110 ft. high...no worries.

Nauti...glad yer having some fun. Yeah...the drive sucks...we used to leave Fri. evening and not come back till Sunday evening just to make it worth while. Day sails are out of the question. Even is West Point had a marina....it is a LONG way from the bay and decent sailing. Some Richmonders go over to the Potomac to Kinsale but that is just as bad as deltaville and more out of the way.

A couple more options off the Rappahannock River are Yankee Point Marine on the Corrotoman and Regent Point Marina on Locklies Creek. Both have active sailing clubs and a lot of friendly boatowners.

Thanks for the advice everyone. It looks like I might not be needing it as the job offer just didn't work out. Hope this helps someone else.

I'm a native Richmonder and keep my boat in Urbanna now. I was in Deltaville originally.

Yeah, a year or two ago they got a govt. grant to put a marina in but I haven't heard a thing about that lately. The York is plenty big at West Point.

My friends are in the Sales office at Rockett's Landing (downtown marina) and I always get a chuckle from the "artist's rendition" of the marina chock full of sailboats. I am still amazed to think they used to sail schooners to Richmond...100 miles upriver! The Ipe docks sure are nice though Too bad no liveaboards.
