Bay to Abacos

I am heading south via ICW to Beaufort, NC, then offshore (weather permitting) to Marsh Harbour during the week of Nov 16. :D
Any other boats heading that way around that time?

There's a PSC 34 that will be leaving our dock in Washington, NC on Nov. 14 and will probably be setting out from Beaufort about the same time. Name of the boat is Gemini, owners aren't on SailNet that I'm aware of.

Our friends left thhis week and are in the Dismal Swamp already. You may run into them "Morning Wind" Island Packet 35 with Maroon canvas.

Also Eryka and Dan from Sailnet are headed dowe the ICW in a CS36 names Cinderella.

If you run into either of them in your travels give them a hi sign from me...**:**)

I'm curious as I am thinking of doing this next fall. How far offshore do you need to get before heading south so as to avoid fighting the gulf stream?

It probably varies. When we came back from Abaco that way, we had a solid Gulf Stream boost nearly the entire way. We were on the rhumb line, which I think had us 300-400 miles off-shore at the furthest point.

Bernd,

What did you come up with for a final life-raft solution?

bjung 11-04-2009 11:39 AM

sck5,
Cornell suggests heading ESE from Beaufort for at least 100 miles before heading south.
John,
I decided on a 6 pers. Givens in valise. It will be in the aft cockpit locker. Hopefully I will never have to find out if it was the right decision... I will however take an inflatable mattress as backup, maybe two.
