When Mom & Dad moved into their 55 & over community about 5 years ago, they offered me both of their JD, the 345 I have now and an older 322 (I gave it to a friend). Although we only have about .25 acre, I said sure, WTH, it will only take 10 minutes to mow the lawn = more time on the boat
Since I teach and they like to close when it snows around here, I thought I could keep myself busy with a snow attachment. When I started looking for something, I wanted a snowblower attachment, but even the used ones I found were $800 - $1000, no way was the wife going for that. So I found a practically brand new plow for $400. I'm glad I got the plow instead...I've moved a 20 ton dump truck load of gravel, level areas in my yard, and rarely do we get more than 8" inches of snow around here so it works for me (however these snow this year are making think about a blower attachment again ) LOL.
I have really found a niche here, you cant plow these driveways with a big truck, and no one in the neighborhood has a tractor, a few have snowthowers...so I'm it. Just before that snow in December I made up some flyer's (200) and distributed them around...I got 27 calls, at $20.00 - 40.00 a pop that adds up. I made up another 200 flyer's yesterday and distributed last night...already today I have 12 calls from new customers wanting to be on my list for the weekend...thats over $1000.00 just this weekend!!! So I say bring on the snow
Here is a picture of me during that storm back in December, we got 22" +-, the 345 with 50# wheel weights, 4 ea. 45# suitcase weights, 100# of salt in the dumper thingy on the back, my fat ass (200#) and chains...it had no problem pushing the snow around, exception on some of the steeper driveways.
Okay, don't laugh to much:

And you've even got a trailer to haul it -- you're killing me!
Nice rig. You'll have fun this weekend.

Crap. I didn't hear about the snow coming next week too.
I simply can't justify having a gas-powered snow removal tool. It won't get used enough. I am at least going to hit Ace Hardware for one of those fancy, ergonomic snow shovels today though.
I get little enough physical activity during winter so it's probably best that I shovel it out.

Seriously, guys, I am thinking of you ... this was the right winter for us to so south!

Hi Eryka! Love the new avatar--the water looks gorgeous! You're right this was the right winter to head south.
Seriously, I'm definitely getting tired of shoveling snow. That said, we have a lot to do on the boat this winter, and spring will be here before we know it!
Cheers,
J

We found out the same last year. We had this idea that we'd do little projects here and there throughout the season--yeah right! We spent our season sailing!!
So yeah, this year, we need to get everything done we want to get done for the year, before or immediately after launch. Otherwise, it'll be next winter before we do it, unless it's something that would keep us off the water.
EDIT: By the way, about an hour ago, the Winter Storm Watch was upgraded to a warning, and the 12-20 inches upgraded to: "...heavy snow with near blizzard conditions...Storm total accumulations 16 - 24 inches..."!
Of course, I still say they don't really know. So we'll see...

If only we had a fireplace! But we DO have plenty of WM and Defender catalogs around, not to mention plenty of Nigel Calder, Beth Leonard, and Don Casey to read. And most important, my lovely wife to keep me warm.
Enjoy the nice weather, Eryka!
