How do you treat our Bay?

The Washington Post has an interesting article that might change your mind on that pretty green lawn...

Well, after reading the article and a quick look out my window to confirm, no pretty lawn here...we're all good. Now my neighbor? I give him so of our ground cover and a copy of the article

Great sentiment for sure.. but if only centuries of waste from the cities and farms that surround the Bay it's tributaries hadn't done it in already. Is it dead, dying or barely making a comeback? Me thinks (don't hate me!) It's too late.. but then..they brought back the Potomac didn't they? Err.. what was the name of the river that actually caught fire back in the 60's?

So, how many millions of tons of waste are coming off just the streets when it rains on the big cities?

The Cuyahoga. And trust me, the Cuyahoga in Cleveland is still a dead zone.

Actually the Cuyahoga isn't as bad as you would think. And the illegal immigrant (sorry) zebra mussels have actually helped clean up Lake Erie a lot.

I think given enough time, all can and will recover. I don't think we can destroy a planet; we'll die off way earlier than that.

This has occured to me before. I really think they ought to ban people from dumping all this fertilzer on thier lawns. I mean when it' a farm it's one thing because you are feeding people and it has a purpose. Just dumping this crap everywhere to make your lawn greener is really outrageous though. With all the lawns in maryland it really adds up to a significant source of pollution. I think everyone in the state would benefit if we had healthier bay and less green lawns.

At the very least make them put up a big warning sign in the fertilizer aisle at home depot that says "you are destroying the chesqapeake bay dummy, is it really worth it?"
