Travel time? Bmore to DC

I know it's hard to be exact with so many variables like weather conditions and such but I thought I would just try to get some estimates from some of the more experienced sailors on here. Anyway so how long do you guys figure it will take to go from Baltimore to DC in my Cal 2-29?

I'm going to sail until I get to the potomac. Then I assume I will have to motor up that most of the way. I'm thinking about trying to make the trip during this upcoming 4 day weekend.

I did Annapolis - DC a couple of times in three reasonable days. I overnighted in Solomons, Cobb Island, and Washington Channel. HR40.

If you're worried about time a couple of crew would let you sail/motor straight through over the long weekend without any strain at all.

4 days may be pushing it, if you get weather....the river mouth can be rough and there will be a lot of traffic from the potomac river bridge to at least Colonial Beach. Usually several poker runs and the go fasts are out en masse...It is a long day from the bay to Woodbridge, a few hours more up to DC...

Enjoy your weekend.

PalmettoSailor will become famous soon enough
As a point of reference, I just moved my 36' boat from Deltaville to HHS motoring with favorable current almost the entire trip so our SOG was over 7 knots for most of the day. From Point Lookout Marina off the Potomac, to HHS took about 9 hours.

I once did Alexandria to BaltImore Inner Harbor in about 36 hours. It was a non-stop trip on a sailboat with a very experienced crew. The "boat" was a 300' square rigged ship, The Christian Radich (July '75). We motored from Alex Va to about the Rt 301 Bridge (which we cleared by LESS than 5'!) And sailed most of the rest of the trip.

I suppose you need to ask if you are just moving the boat or cruising? If jusyt moving you can motor most of the time and sail only when conditions are optimal. Cruising would be the reverse. So maybe 3-5 days.
