Keep in mind that anchoring in the Gunpowder or Bush rivers near the mouth is prohibited by APG, or at least thats what they told me when I called a couple of weeks ago?

Veasey .... actually this anchorage is at the mouth of the Bohemia R. along the S. shore. Lat/Lon: N39°28.59'/W75°56.05'

One can also anchor at the mouth of Cabin John Creek, as close in as possible. Cabin John 'used' to be a good anchorage, before Hurricane Floyd but is now 'filled-in'.

Why not during New Moon in Spring?
There is a specific 'midge' (aka - 'fuzzy heads') that emerges with very large 'hatch' during those times of the NEW moon. These midges emerge and greatly congregate on boats, etc. .... and then 'vomit' an impossible-to-remove green blob of slime on gelcoat, sail fabric, etc. .... anything that is 'light' in color. These blobs will NOT come out of sail fabric and only by LONG TERM soaking from GelCoat; the green seemingly 'penetrating' INTO the gel. These 'midges' are know to carry 'vibrio' ... a form of cholera.

You can anchor... but I don't see how you could sleep. For all the reasons previously stated and one more, I wouldn't do it. I recall last year a sailboat anchoring outside the breakwall of Rock Hall harbor. Can't imagine why when he could have so easily been inside the breakwall but that's what he did. I became aware of the boat when it was brought to the marina for repair. It had become adrift during the night and crashed upon the rocks that make up the harbor's breakwall. Bashed in the bow pretty well and I can report that they had a pretty blanket on the V-birth. I asked the fellow what happened and he replied he didn't know, they were asleep and the next thing he knew, they were on the rocks.

I think safe harbor is the best anchorage, river, creek or other anchorage preferred. Can you anchor mid-Bay, sure...but probably just while you fish.

It only takes a little while longer to tuck in some place safe so why not do so? There's just too much tug/barge traffic on the upper bay. We feel the wakes in the anchorages so I can't imagine what it would be like in the open. Not to mention where will you go if your anchor should drag? If you're lucky it will be into shallow water. If you're not will it be into the channel and path of a tug. Not a choice in my book.

Was a little surprised to see a ketch cruiser anchored just off Windmill Point for the night during the recent heat wave. Seemed to work them though. Definitely the best way to catch a breeze on a hot night, but it surely was an exposed position.
