Knapps Narrows depth?

Does anyone have some depths for the channel through Knapps Narrows?

You're not planning of going through without a recent chart are you? A 12 year old chart I have, has it at 8 ft.

Active Captain (www.activecaptain.com ) says, "Knapps Narrows, between the mainland and the northern end of Tilghman Island, affords passage from Choptank River to Chesapeake Bay. In November-December 2005, the controlling depth was 5.7 feet from the Choptank River to the highway bridge, thence 1.4 feet (4.0 feet at midchannel) to the Chesapeake Bay. In August 2006, shoaling to 4 feet was reported in the west channel and to 3.5 feet in the east channel. Note that the system of marking is from each entrance and reverses at the bridge. " but that is not verified.

I've been through there last couple of years and find that I can do it with my 5' draft. I have found that there is shoaling at the #4 mark on the western approach. According to local knowledge (owner of Tilghman Island Marina) you need to hug the R4 and you will be fine. I got pushed out by an approaching speeding powerboat and did run aground but was able to free myself (luckily). I was too far out from the mark.

Thanks! I do have the latest chart(s), but they don't have the most recent information. Neither does Active Captain, in this case. I understand Knapps channel was dredged to a theoretical 9 feet in 2007, but when I went through last year, I touched too, though I also was pushed to the edge of the channel because of oncoming boats. I'll try Gladrags advice when I go through next week.

Let us know how you make out. Also; be aware of tide and conditions such as extremely low tide due to strong northwesterlies.
