Oxford or Cambridge Marina's

My wife, 2 younger children and dogs are heading out in a few days for a week of sailing aroudn the Tred Avon river. Thinking to go to Oxford, possibly on to Cambridge.

Can anyone recommend a child/pet friendly (or just nice setting for that matter) of a marina in Oxford? Seems they have a few, but thought I'd see what other folks have experienced. I've got a 5' draft and 38' length, so not every marina will work for me.

Oxford doesn't seem that big, so walking everywhere should be okay, I assume. I saw on the internet that Crockett Brothers has a pool, but couldn't find anything else about it or a valid phone #. Anyone know about this marnia? Does it still exist?

Cheers,
Gregg

I would highly recommend Mears Marina in Oxford. Nice pool and very friendly. They have a barbecue grove for cookouts as well. Short walk to all that Oxford has to offer. Crockett Bros. is now the Hinkley Marina. Their main reason for being is to service Hinkleys. Marina operations is way at the bottom. I doubt they even open the pool (they didn't the year we went there).

We've stayed at both Hinckley and Mears - both a few years ago. You are right - Oxford is very walkable. Hinckley is a little closer to the center of town. Mears is closer to the Highland Creamery Ice Cream shop. Not sure if that will be open except on weekends this early in the season. Pools probably aren't open either. Both are old fashioned places. As Gladrags1 said Hinckley's main business is servicing yachts. We were there 3 or 4 years ago and at the time they were friendly and helpful as was Mears 2 years ago.

Thanks for all the advice! Mears seems like it might be a good choice, especially with the kids and dogs. I gave them a call and the pool is not open yet (won't be for 'a few weeks'), but at $2.25/ft plus electric, that's puts me about $90/night. Kinda pricy relatively speaking. We may consider achoring off and just take the dinghy in each day.

Looks like Schooners might have a place to tie up a dinghy during the day. Anyone have opinion about anchoring in Town Creek? Seems like it might be a little tight.

Thanks again everyone!

There are moorings in front of the Stand which I have been told are private..but at this time the Town of Oxford is trying to take over and maintain but that situation is still up in the air.

There are a few boats that do anchor in Town Creek but the width to which one can anchor is restricted and sometimes hinders others traveling on Town Creek..unless you have a very shallow draft and can anchor out side the navigable channel.

Give these people a call..
