Hey, you are the customer, you hold the card. I would ask them, and they will either say no or yes. Make a deal with them, ask them for a short commitment term, so if their business picks up, they can give it to the highest bidder. If I were the marina owner and has an empty slip and I will fill the space until a better pay customer goes along. Survival of the fittest.

OTOH, if you love Annapolis you may consider doing a time share boat just like me. To me it is the biggest bargain. For a bit over 6K a year, I get all the good things without the bad things of ownership.

I sail a late model 37' foot with all luxury amenities, including AC, nice head with shower, no diesel or head smell, chart plotter, auto helm (autotack, auto head to wind), no pump out or stopping at the fuel deck, no worry. We are fully insured with $500 deductible. The boat is always clean and ready to sail when I arrive.

The boat docks at the mouth of Back Creek, it take less than 5 min to a Hugh sailing ground. It takes less than 25 min to motor to Annapolis Harbor, you can take a mooring ball there. Take a water taxi to City Deck or Chart House to have dinner.

If you keep a boat at the same marina, it will cost you more than $7k a year there. Although the marina offers a lot, very clean individual bath room with AC, in ground pool, and restaurant, it is not cheap. It is bargain for us.

Please note: I have no financial tie to the owner. To my understanding, their is a waiting list. But you can sign on next year.

Denise,

We have two slips at Watergate Village that would do for you:

C13 is 14X33X6 for a lease July - April for $2830.00
C19 is 14X33X8.5 for $3330.00

I walked over and looked. Both are right across the fairway from me, very protected, a bit of a walk to parking (100 yards maybe?), pretty quiet dock, good views, all the stuff I wrote about before.

I'll PM you contact information for the office. No big deal either way, but we are about the best deal in Annapolis.

Rockdawg.... not sure I would agree with all the good things without the bad things of ownership. I think you miss some of the point of ownership as its not about new and bling bling Let me try and explain in a long rambling way:

I like tinkering and fixing ...my boat as many of us find relaxing. "Renting" a boat for $6000 a year and throwing your money away with nothing to show afterwards is like the difference between renting a house and buying one. In 10 years of renting a boat...there is an expenditure of 60,000 with nothing to show for it. And you cannot use it all the time,,,anytime either. 10 years of making 60,000 in payments say 1/2 for the boat and 1/2 for the marina/ yclub you have 30,000 equity in YOUR own boat.

I understand the appeal of what you do, but long term its a waste of money. And you can deduct interest off the income tax also off of most owned boats. I have no boat payments as Haleakula is ours and pay far less than 6000 for a year to have unlimited sailing time on a boat that I have customized for us and use all the time between March and December, No one else is sleeping in our bed or running it into a shoal. Also just because the "rented" boat is of new vintage it has equipment which is more dated every year.

While our hull was built a while ago...I am sure that our electronics, head, shower, anchor, wiring, and many other pieces have been replaced in the last 2 years are far newer and up to date than on most rented boats or even the one you rent which was built in 2006. It is a misnomer I think to say that it is more modern...it was built more recently yes.

Renting is not the way to go in the long haul I think or more people would do it. It fits a lifestyle of different the the average person who owns a boat and loves the act and their own boat. I am not putting what you down in any way as obviously you do love the water, and love to sail, but the commitment and the lifestyle of the casual cruiser is far different than the commitment of one who owns a boat,,,takes care of her, fixes her up, takes pride in ownership and want to take their own boat on trips to the Bahamas, Bermuda, New England and beyond. I have been there and want to take my boat there agian...not someone elses. Again I reiterate it doesnt make me better or a better sailor,,,thats not what I am saying.

Everytime I have taken a long trip to New England.....Long Island anywhere over a couple weeks on our boat...when I get home I thank our "valiant girl" for her performance...keeping us safe...and give her a loving pat (tears) for a job well done. See when you own your boat...its really a part and extension of you and your family in may ways.

You can walk away from your boat.....and let someone else use it and have it services and ready when you come back...or just walk away. We dont want to walk away...dont want someone else using her...and would feel a great loss (and will someday) when we can no longer sail her. See Haleakula has been the source of many many experiences for my wife and I, where we have explored new harbors, met new friends, rafted up and seen many many many sunsets. She has also seen quite a few bottle of pinot noir and zinfendel.

Not sure I made much sense here.

Dave

The best deal in that area is Bowleys CondoMarina. at the entrance to Middle River. $2000- $2200 for the YEAR. Not the season, the Year. This includes winter storage on land. It's gated with pool, clubhouse, picnic area, and you're close sailing to everywhere in the area. Balt. 18 mi, Annapolis 24 mi, St, Michaels, 35 mi
I own a 32' slip there, but it's rented.

FWIW I have negotiated down the rates for the last three years at 2 different marinas. Did similar at a 3rd I passed on and was offered a discount at a 4th, but had already made a commitment elsewhere. These are western shore, but not Annapolis. Outside of certain peak communities there are a lot of empty slips. A LOT. Some owners would rather get something than nothing.

Trekka you pretty much voiced what I was wondering all along. It would be wrong to mention what places have empty slips but I'd like to know if you PM me!
