Galesville

I forgot to mention in my other post concerning the Wye River that we are also looking for a deep anchorage near Galesville. We draw around 6. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

We were in Galesville last weekend. I don't recall seeing anything less than 8' into the anchorage off Pirate's Cove.

Yeah, you'll be fine in Galesville with that draft. Most folks anchor in the vicinity of Chalk Point where the South Creek splits off to the left from West River proper. Or you can keep going further up, but the public dock is closer to the first anchorage I described, which is the same one SVA referred to.

I keep my boat in the Galesville Anchorage area, it is deep throughout. Be careful coming into Galesville, the channel connecting the main body of West River to Galesville is narrow (wide enough to tack if needed) but the entrance end has a sharp ledge to port on entering. The channel easily carries 6' and more all the way into the anchorage. There are 2 nice restaurants in Galesville, Pirates Cove ( to starboard at he end of the last dock in the series) and Thursday's (just past the anchorage also on starboard, low white building ON the water). Both have slips available but on weekends like July 4th will be busy, Pirates Cove will answer VHF 16. Maryland Marine Police tend patrol the anchorage area so mind the 6 knots speed limit on weekends and holidays.
